For the first time in Hue, antiques which were gifts presented to the Nguyen Dynasty from courts and governments, marking the international relations at that time, will be displayed at an exhibition. It will open on June 6 within the framework of the Festival Hue 2004.
Antiques will be exhibited in An Dinh Palace. They were gifts from China, Japan, Thailand, the UK, Spain and US presented to the Nguyen Dynasty. Items include an akaemono ornamental jar which was made by Japanese people in the early 18th century and special chinaware produced in China as gifts to King Minh Mang (1820-1841).
Guns presented by the French to King Khai Dinh on his enthronement, a two housed carriage carrying whisky barrels and china tumbles presented by American businessmen to King Bao Dai (1926-1945) and many bowls, dishes, cups, paintings, and other precious objects marking the international relations between the western countries and Vietnam, will be on display for the first time ever. The exhibition will also introduce two nominations from Tunisia and Lebanon Kings who presented diplomatic medals to King Bao Dai.
Some chinaware which was ordered by Kings Thanh Thai, Duy Tan and Khai Dinh in France will be exhibited as well. Since the Nguyen Dynasty came to an end in 1945, this will be the first time objects of memory from international relations of the last feudal royal dynasty to be displayed in a castle bearing a lot of historical and artistic imprints.
