Chua Huong (Perfume Pagoda) Festival 2005 will kick off on February 14th (the sixth day of the first lunar month) at Huong Pagoda, announced a press conference on January 21st.
The festival, lasting through three months in spring, attracts hundreds of thousands of Buddhist pilgrims and tourists from all parts of the country, as well as overseas Vietnamese.
To ensure safe journeys for pilgrims this year, the local authority has set up a festival organising board to manage services and cultural activities, preparing 3000 boats and expanding Yen Spring, which leads the way to the main pagoda.
Notably, the 2005 Festival is to be the first time Chua Huong will employ a cable car system for pilgrim transport. The system is worth some VND75billion, according to engineer Bui Duc Duan, Deputy Director of Chua Huong Cable Car and Tourism Services Joint Stock Company, which is now finishing its construction.
Cars will run along the 1.2km-long cable, sloped at 1.82%, which has been constructed in some of the most difficult terrain's mountains, forest and in a community of pagodas. Pillars of the system are perched precariously between canyons, and mountains.
