Southern Fruit Festival 2004, which is chosen a tourism event in Ho Chi Minh City, will be launched on June 1st by the Ho Chi Minh City’s Departments of Tourism, Culture and Information, Agriculture, and Suoi Tien Tourism Area. It will run through until August 30th at Suoi Tien Tourist Zone.
On display will be a fruit market with 40 stalls, decorated like a floating market typical to the southwest, that will offer 45 kinds of special southern fruits including Long Khanh - Cai Be rambutans, mangosteens, and mulberry; Cai Mon durians and colocynth; Vinh Long tangerines, and Hoa Loc mangoes. They are sold 30-40% cheaper than regular market prices. An area will also be set up selling frozen fruits and pure fruit juices. In addition, bonsai, ornamental trees and stones, birds and unique fruits will be also displayed at a special area.Besides, there will be award for selling freezing fruits and original fruit-juice.
During the festival, contest on plastic arts in fruits will take place with the participants of 70 artisans. Also on hand for visitors will be 15 folk games, lion dances, music and a circus performance, as well as a host of gigantic fruits. The Festival is expected to attract 5,000 to 7,000 tourists a day.
