Hotels, resorts in Hoi An Town, central province Quang Nam, reported that they are not ready to welcome tourists as the Xangsane Typhoon has ravaged their facilities when it swept over the town.
Nguyen Thanh Sang, Chairman of the Management Board of Palm Garden Resort in Cua Dai beach said the typhoon has damaged 60 out of the total 160 rooms of the resort. The local authority has sent 200 soldiers to help with tidying as the APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting will be held at the resort.
“We need at least three days to be ready for providing accommodation,” Sang confirmed.
The situation is similar in Victoria Hoi An Resort & Spa, Claude Balland. General Director of the resort reported that during Xangsane many rooms were flooded with seawater, doors collapsed and the typhoon damaged the water supply and electric system. Claude said it would take his resort four days to get back to normal.
Golden Sand Resort announced that its service will be working again today October 3 since hard work has been done to clear out rubbish and fallen trees in its garden. The water supply and power system in the resort has also been checked.
According to the External Relations Department of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the typhoon has slowed down the preparation work for the APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting, but efforts will be made for the meeting to take place in Hoi An from October 11 to 19 as scheduled.
