A new stone cave has been discovered on Lom Bo Island, Ha Long Bay, 15km south of the mainland.
The cave lies in a cliff about 25m above the water surface. The two entrances to the cave are very narrow, enabling only one person to climb through to a flat inner area of 3,000sq.m.
A group of stalagmites with Buddha-like shapes cover between 5-7m of the cave's floor.
World famous, Ha Long Bay is renowned for its system of islands and caves. Most of the islands are of limestone, formed over 500mil years ago, and are massed in the southeast and southwest. Schist islands scattered in the southeast have an average height of between 50-200m and have a rich covering of flora.
Within the islands of the Bay there are hundreds of beautiful caves of different shapes and sizes, including many famous names such as Thien Cung, Dau Go, Sung Sot, Tam Cung and Bo Nau. Some, such as Dau Go, Bo Nau, Sung Sot, Soi Nhu, Tien Long, Me Cung and Trinh Nu caves, retain valuable archaeological information.
