The 2005 Ha Long Tourism Festival officially opened on April 23, on Tuan Chau Island in Ha Long City, coastal Quang Ninh Province, after a successful soft start April 18.
The event is to kick off a new tourism season in Quang Ninh province marking the 10th anniversary of selection as a World Natural Heritage Site.
Activities will include food and drink, a 10-years anniversary celebration, and the introduction of new tours.
Last year, tourism in the province earned VND1,000bil, boosted by aggressive promotion.
In 2004, the province started construction of a US$450mil resort including a golf course and hotels pushing the total number of hotel rooms in the province over 10,000. The provincial hospitality industry has also released figures that it attracted 827,000 tourists in the first quarter of 2005, including 211,000 foreigners.
