Central Highlands Festival opens - Vietnam Travel Reviews - Vietnam Travel Information

The Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) Festival, the largest of its kind in the region, is opening in Dak Lak Province from 9th to 14th March, 2005. About 20 art delegations nationwide joined the festival, which commemorates the 100th anniversary of the city and the 30th anniversary of its Liberation Day. In addition to the hundreds of domestic and foreign businesses displaying products at 550 pavilions, local entrepreneurs sell coffee, ruou can (wine drunk out of a jar through pipes), and products made of traditional brocaded fabric and handicrafts to visitors at 100 stands. On the sidelines, a series of cultural activities are held during the event, including art performances and festivals of ethnic groups in the Central Highlands region, as well as a week-long screening of films about mountainous areas and Vietnamese ethnic groups. Moreover, the host province also give presentations on 40 projects subjects such as farm produce processing, hydropower, tourism and infrastructure construction in order to call for capital from domestic and foreign investors.
