Sapphire Princess, one of the world's largest passenger ships, anchored off Vung Tau on Thursday with more than 2,600 ocean voyageurs and 1,100 crew members on board.
The 300-metre-long, 50-metre-wide and 55-metre-high luxury cruiser was too big to dock at Vung Tau's harbour so that the Tan Hong Co. had to hire hydrofoils from the Vina Express Co. to transport the tourists to the mainland.
Some of the visitors from Australia, England, Japan, the United States and other countries also boarded the Sapphire Princess's lifeboats to reach Vung Tau, some 120 kilometres from HCM City.
Once on land, Tan Hong took the tourists around Vung Tau and HCM City. Destinations in the city included the Cu Chi Tunnels, the History Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Reunification Palace.
The Sapphire Princess, which left Australia on March 3 and stopped in Malaysia and Singapore on the way to Vietnam, took off from Vung Tau for Thailand the same day.
The ship, which can carry 4,200 people, will come back via Vietnam again and dock at Chan May port in Thua Thien-Hue province on March 31.
