French hotel management group, Accor, on April 19 bestowed the Sofitel name on the Vinpearl Resort & Spa at the Hon Tre tourism site, coastal Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province.
Assuming the management of this hotel is part of Accor’s strategy to spread its activities in Asia-Pacific region.
Patrick Basset, Chairman of Accor in Asia, confirmed that with the new brand name – Sofitel Vinpearl Resort & Spa - the hotel would be advertised like other hotels bearing the Sofitel of Accor Group name.
“Vietnam ranks fourth among Asian countries with Accor operations. We want Vietnam to have international standard hotels,” he said.
The construction of Sofitel Vinpearl began in 2002 by the Hon Tre Tourism and Trade Co, Ltd. It started operation in December 2003 on Hon Tre Island, Nha Trang. With a total area of 150ha and 700m of beach, it is the largest five-star resort in Vietnam.
The investor plans to build one more four-star hotel, a culinary village and an entertainment zone along the coast totalling 40ha. A 3.5km causeway will be built to link the island to the mainland next year.
Commenting Nha Trang’s tourism potentials, Nigel Happer, General Director of the Sofitel Vinpearl Hotel said that Nha Trang is a key destination for foreign visitors thanks to its wonderful natural beauty. However, the city needs to quickly upgrade its infrastructure, especially Cam Ranh Airport.
Accor is an international hotel management group with 168,000 members in 140 countries. It operates nearly 4,000 hotels around the world, including five in Vietnam: Hanoi, Da Lat, Nha Trang and HCM City under the Sofitel name.
