Thai Airways International (THAI) has recently invited Vietnam’s national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines to join an aviation alliance, open code-sharing flights and use THAI maintenance services.
THAI made the offers during recent working sessions of the airlines’ executives in Bangkok to intensify bilateral cooperation.
The Vietnam Airlines head, Nguyen Xuan Hien, pledged to study THAI's proposals. Mr. Hien said the scope and details of a bilateral cooperation plan would be further discussed by experts of the two sides in the near future.
According to THAI President Kanok Abhiradee, the airline plans to invest 1 billion Baht (roughly 26.3 million USD) in upgrading airports and opening new routes, particularly international destinations, with the aim of raising its competitiveness.
