The week-long festival celebrating the unique culture of central Quang Nam province will kick off this Monday at the province’s two World Heritage sites and other areas.
Visitors can experience the combination of traditional and contemporary values that reflect the diverse culture in central Vietnam via the festivities, said Dinh Hai, deputy head organizer of the second Heritage Itinerary Festival 2005.
According to organizers, tourists will witness many surprise and interesting activities at the province’s cultural venues that include the World Heritage sites My Son Holy Land and Hoi An ancient town.
Events for everyone
At Cua Dai port in Hoi An town, tourists can take part in the traditional Cau Ngu marine festival where locals gather to pray for a bountiful fishing season. In addition, folk games, art exhibitions and seminars on cultural preservation will take place.
Dinh Hai, deputy head organizer of the festival, said 250 domestic and overseas journalists had so far registered to cover the festival. Meanwhile, 100 tourist agencies will bring its travelers, mostly from Japan and Korea, to the festivities. At present, hotels in Quang Nam have been preparing to serve the expected influx of tourists for the festival.
Visitors can also enjoy Vietnamese folk songs from different parts of the country and participate in “Hoi An Ancient Night” where the local people and artists will act out the daily activities of residents in the old days.
There will also be a fashion show featuring the traditional outfits of the Hoi An people and tourists will get to see, for the first time, restored Vietnamese sail boats at Cham Island.
According to Nguyen Xuan Phuc, chairman of the People’s Committee in Quang Nam, there will also be other festivities to commemorate the 30th anniversary of liberation in Tam Ky town and to welcome the first commercial flight at the provincial Chu Lai airport next month.
On next Thursday, March 24, the festival will end with splendid closing ceremony on the Hoai River in Hoi An.
