Air, rail and motorways have all reopened after a weekend of devastation as Vietnam’s central region was hammered by Typhoon Xangsane, transportation officials said Monday.
National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines announced it has resumed all domestic flights, including the Danang and Hue routes, the two regions of central Vietnam hardest hit by the typhoon.
Airline spokesman Nguyen Tan Chan said they had increased flight frequencies on the Danang routes to Hanoi and HCMC Monday, and restarted some 50 local flights and 100 internationals routes.
Tuesday will see three flights from Hanoi to Danang with two return flights, and four to Danang from HCMC, with three return flights in order to make up for the delays during the storm.
Rail and road
Head of the Vietnam Railway Corporation’s Carriage Department Tran Bat said all rail lines have reopened, and the schedule will return to normal Tuesday.
A large portion of pavement along the Ho Chi Minh Highway in the central provinces has been damaged, causing motorway traffic to grind to a halt, said Vu Van Hung General Director of Road Transports Center No. 5.
But with concerted effort from the centers work crews, the Ho Chi Minh Highway reopened this afternoon.
Three days ago, Vietnam Airlines was forced to change route on its international flights and delay some 50 domestic flights, while flights from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City remained unchanged.
The VRC, on the other hand, had said to postpone train travel on certain rail routes for three consecutive days beginning Saturday.
